Vehicle propulsion

Vehicle propulsion refers to the act of moving an artificial carrier of people or goods over any distance. The power plant used to drive the vehicles can vary widely. Originally, humans or animals would have provided the means of propulsion, later being supplemented by wind power. Since the Industrial Revolution, mechanical propulsion has been possible, initially using steam engines. More recently, most vehicles use some form of internal-combustion engine, with various energy sources to power them.

Soviet "Red" Seals dive propulsion vehicle, Protei-5

Russian DPV runs against Farallon DPV at Dutch Springs on 7/6/2008. At high speed and full charge, the MK-7 is as fast as the Protei-5, but one diver had a SCR and the other LP steel doubles. One thing I did note about the MK-7 is that is louder than the Protei-5. Good run with the Farallon before we actually rolled tape, but this video does show some stunts, as we were racing right at each other on two clips, we each knew to swing to starboard to avoid collision! The MK-7 has a dead man's switch, but if one is knocked unconscious on the Protei-5, it will keep running, certainley a danger, as the rescue team will have to chase you down and find you still attached and racing away! Typical military thinking for the soviets!

This instructional video by Scuba.com discusses the advantages of using scooters. Having a scooter, also known as a diver propulsion vehicle, will eliminate the need to kick since it is moving you through the water. It is common to improve your diving time by about 50% because the less you work the less you breathe. The battery life on a scooter is approximately 90 minutes and has a speed of about 2.5mph.
